I knew John and Kathy many years ago, where they were our neighbors in Green Mountain, in Thiells, N.Y. Very sad to hear of his death. He was a wonderful neighbor and I will remember him always! My deepest sympathy to Kathy and the family. Virginia Duddy

Upon learning of the Passing of John my heart sank. But like in the Grinch, It grew several sizes as i remembered what a wonderful Father, Grand Father, Husband and DEA Investigator/Inspector John was. His loss is a blow to all who knew and respected him as well as the DEA to whom he gave so much. John treated everyone with respect and was given respect in return. It was truly an honor to have known such an outstanding Investigator, DEA Senior Inspector, and all round terrific guy. Weeks before he retired, John went to his management in DEA Hqtrs Inspections and provided his personal recommendation for me to be his replacement as the Diversion Inspector on his team. Words cannot express how much that meant to me then and especially now. John will always be remembered for the quality of his work, his professionalism, and his keen ability to precisely analyze a situation and provide a solid and extremely accurate appraisal of the situation. More than once I picked up the phone to seek his advise on several situations even though we were on opposite coasts and posts of duty. I was very saddened to just now, this afternoon, hear of John's passing. Many of us from DEA will miss him greatly, and my heart goes out to wife Kathy, son John, daughter Maryellen and grandchildren. I hope that John truly did enjoy every day - I think he did. I always enjoyed interacting with John, because no matter what, he found a way to make us laugh. I am proud to have known and worked with John, and we used to kid that he was NY and I was Boston - but we had the same values and upbringing. John, you gave DEA a great fight (re: prescription drug abuse and status of investigators) and of course they know you were right. I salute this Army Veteran of the Vietnam War, and I am glad to see that John will be appropriately interred at Arlington National Cemetery, across the highway where he worked for many years. I am sorry that John left us so young, and Cheri and I will keep the Buckley Family in our prayers. May God bless you all, and accept Dear Dad and Granddad John into his final reward.
