Obituary of Bice Ditaranto

Bice Ditaranto, 95, of Herndon, VA, passed away on May 2, 2016 surrounded by her loving children. We were truly blessed to have her as our mother. Her inspiration, guidance, values, strength, and strong beliefs in education, shaped our lives forever. Her devotion to her family and loved ones was strong and unwavering throughout her life. She was born on August 10, 1920, in Fondi, Italy, to the late Carmela and Guiseppi Campagnolo. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Joseph Ditaranto, her son, Joe Ditaranto, and her brother, Joseph Campagnolo. At age 15, she and her mother made the long voyage to the United States to join their loving father/husband who had waited patiently for them. They landed at Ellis Island and settled in Ithaca, NY, near other family members from Fondi. Several years later, after her father was seriously injured and died, the family of three moved to McKeesport, PA. She met her husband while visiting relatives in Jersey City. They married March 21, 1942. As of 1991, she resided in Herndon, VA, with her children. She had a passion for cooking Italian cuisine, baking, reading, crocheting, and ceramics. She spent the best part of her life enjoying her grandchildren. Bice is survived by her three children, Lena of Herndon, Jane (Jack) Watson of Leesburg, and Dr. Jim Ditaranto of Leesburg, her beloved grandsons, Jack and Jimmy Watson of Leesburg, and special cousins Lena Pomella and children of N.Versilles, PA and Vinnie Pantozzi of Jersey City. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 4, 2016 at Adams Green Funeral Home. A funeral mass will be held at 12:00 PM on Thursday, May 5, 2016 at the Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church in Sterling with Fr. Bob Langone officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the mass also at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Interment is at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.
