Von Harry Van Horn (age 67), a resident of Ashburn Virginia and hail from McKeesport Pennsylvania lost his courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, May 17th surrounded by family and loved ones. Survived by his wife of 43 years, Beverly and three sons Chad (Jenny Van Horn), Travis, and Ryan (Heather Van Horn), his brother Rud Van Horn (Peggy Van Horn) and sisters Jill Mohlman (Tim Mohlman), Hatti Topolnak (Bob Topolnak), and Kelly Cline (Mark Cline). Grandchildren included Reese, Regan, Aidan, Reid, and a fifth grandchild on the way. Born August 16th, 1948 in McKeesport Pennsylvania to Harry Albert Van Horn and Patricia Fullard Van Horn. Von was a United States Marine. He was a solider, fighting on the front lines for our country during the Vietnam War and received the 2 Purple Hearts and a Gold Star for his service. Shortly after his tour in Vietnam, he became an embassy guard at various locations throughout the Middle East. He went on to earn his undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland and began his career working for the CIA in 1974. He served his country 31 years and officially retired from the CIA on 30 September 2000. Von had many friends from all walks of life and enjoyed learning about many different cultures during his career and travels around the world. He was fiercely devoted to his country, only to be surpassed by his devotion to his family. While he was an intensely private man, those that knew him best, knew he had a personality larger than life. Golfing was one of his biggest passions in life, where he enjoyed playing most with family and friends. He loved working in the yard, a good card game with the family, and watching sports. One of his favorite things to do was play with his grandkids. Most of all, he enjoyed sitting on the front porch at 235 surrounded by family. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be forwarded to one of the following foundations: SIGNA Scholarship Foundation, PO Box 5, Oakton, VA 22124 Leukemia & Lymphoma Society https://donate.lls.org/lls/donate CIA Officers Memorial Foundation, PO Box 405, Herndon, VA 20172
