Colleen Joyce Button (ne Palmer)
A memorial service for Colleen Joyce Button will be held on Monday, June 27, 2016 at 11:00 A.M. in Dranesville United Methodist Church, 1089 Liberty Meeting Court, Herndon, Virginia 20710
Mrs. Button died on June 11, 2016. She was born in Kerrville, Texas on January 4, 1929. From precious dust, Colleen Joyce was formed and God breathed life into her. Her soul was carried by the angels to the joys of Heaven. Whole now and full of vitality, she has joined the heavenly chorus singing praises to Christ Jesus, her Lord and Savior. At long last, she is reunited with her beloved Mother, Marilyn Brown, who preceded her in death.
Colleen was a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her three children: Gina and her husband William from Herndon, VA, Kim and his wife Peney, from Huntingdon, PA and Michael and his wife Susan from Katy, TX.
She dearly loved her two grandchildren: Rachel Hume, who is a gifted artist currently pursuing her Bachelors of Fine Arts degree at Virginia Commonwealth University and Corporal William Marshall, United States Marine Corps, currently stationed at Camp Pendleton, CA. Even during times when the medical issues that she endured caused her to suffer from confusion, she always remembered her grandchildren. They were a great source of joy to her.
During the last year of her life, Colleen was confined to the Fairfax Nursing Center where she was given constant care by her loving daughter Gina. Gina read to her Mother, nurtured her Mother, provided care for her and kept the entire family up-to-date on her state of health. The comfort that was provided by Gina's support helped Colleen transition to the arms of her loving Savior in a very gentle manner.
Colleen was the matriarch of the family. She raised her children with great love and tenderness. She worried about their welfare and counseled them throughout their lives. She was very proud of the success that each of her children achieved.
Colleen was an outstanding High School English teacher. She mentored many students during the course of her career and was admired by her peers in education. Colleen was an avid reader; she loved to travel and was a marvelous cook who experimented with foods from around the world.
Colleen was active in the Dranesville United Methodist Church, VA. Even late in life, when travel became very difficult, she would attend services in her wheelchair. She was a devout Christian and read the Holy Bible regularly. We all benefitted from the example of hard work, kindness, generosity and faith that she left for us.
We were all blessed for the time that we had on this earth with our Mother and Grandmother. She will be dearly missed, and we are grateful to our Heavenly Father for the gifts of her love and her life.
Heartfelt thanks are extended to Reverend William Heinzman of the Dranesville United Methodist Church for visiting our Mother and providing prayers and comfort to her in her hours of need. In addition, our family would like to thank the numerous Dranesville United Methodist Church parishioners and friends who visited our Mother.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Dranesville United Methodist Church, 1089 Liberty Meeting Court, Herndon, Virginia 20710, so that they may continue their out-reach and patronage.
