Dear Liz and family,
I just heard about Chris, and I will write you a note and send it soon. For now I just want to say how sorry I am, and how much all of us who worked with Chris in the TVA years loved and admired and really, really ENJOYED Chris. When I was at the beginning of my career he trusted me, encouraged me, educated me and made me laugh so much.
He always attributed any of his sucess to his good fortune at having convinced you to marry him, and that you were willing to remain married to him despite his imperfections. He regaled us with proud stories of the accomplishments of all of his children, and entertained us with funny stories about all of you, especially "Miss Moo". I also remember hilarious stories about Prissy and Smudge.
As you can see, Chris was a very big part of making my times (and the time of others who worked with him in that office) some of the happiest in my life.
I am comforted that he was with you, doing something fun, when he left us. I know that there are no words that can make this better, but we will all be thinking of Chris, and of you and your family, and how fortunate it was that we knew all of you.
God bless you,
Betsey Horsmon

Dear Liz and the Eckl family, I'm so sorry for your loss. Chris was a wonderful friend, supporter and colleague to me during the time we worked together in TVA's Washington Office. He touched my life in so many ways while we worked together and for years after, wherever my life took me. Chris' warmth, humor, directness and generosity was evident to me and everyone that he encountered. Thank you for sharing such a wonderful teacher and friend with so many. And thank you for welcoming me into your home as one of many "adoptees" during your family meals and holidays which were always so full of love. The world was a better place with Chris in it and will continue to be as he positively influenced and touched so many. I am lucky to have known him. With Love, Meg

I haven't seen Chris in years, but he was important in my daily life 25 years ago. He laughed with life. And when he laughed, he would move his head back a bit; something I still have the visual in my head these many years later! He was a gentleman. He was insightful and practical. He touched many lives.

My sincere condolences to Chris's family. Chris was the kindest, most gentle and loving person. I will forever remember his humor and joy of life. I was "the other Lynn" for many years on Wednesday evenings. Wonderful man so devoted to his family and friends. He has left his love for all within our hearts.

My heartfelt sympathy to Chris' family and friends who share this loss. Chris was just the friendliest, most caring person one would ever want to meet. He always had encouraging words to help others through tough times. I knew him through a special group of friends and lost touch when I moved away several years ago. Many of those same friends are still in Reston and are feeling this loss. All of us will keep happy memories of our dear friend Chris. May he Rest in Peace.

To the Eckl family: Our sincere condolences to you in the loss of your dear Chris. What a shining light he was in the public power world. Chris always had a great story or anecdote, and what a memory! Probably many of us didn't know about other sides of Chris, so thank you for sharing his good works and social consciousness with us. Chris' friends at the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association.
