Obituary of John Patrick O'Leary

   John O'Leary passed away peacefully at his home in Herndon, Virginia on Friday July 1st. He was 82. A long-time resident of the town, John was well known in the community, especially at St. Joseph church - where he was a parishioner for over 40 years - as well as the Knights of Columbus council 6175.    He was born and raised in New York City where he attended Cardinal Hayes High School and SUNY. He called Herndon his home since the early 1970s, moving here to follow his career at IBM, which spanned more than three decades leading to his retirement in 1991.    John was the eldest of five children, and was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Sheila, and his brothers Joe and Jim. He is survived by his four children Liz (Hamrick), Dan, Marjie, and Niel; his sister Julia (Rapp) and his brother Tom; his grandsons Jamie (Hamrick), Dylan, and Jack; his great-grandchildren Alex (Hamrick) and Steffanie (Hamrick); and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family and friends both near and far. Family will receive guests Sunday, July 10, from 2 to 5 p.m. at Adams-Green Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Monday July 11th, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Herndon, VA.
