Obituary of Stuart Martin Jewell

Stuart Jewell, of Herndon, Virginia, passed away on July 7, 2016; he was 56 years old. Stuart was born in Paxton, Illinois on March 22, 1960. He was the son of Dr. Donald S. Jewell and the late Carolyn Tuttle Smith Jewell. Stuart grew up in Broad Run Farms in Sterling, VA; he attended Ferrum College and East Tennessee State University. He had a successful career in software engineering, most recently as a Software Test Engineer for IBM. Stuart was active in the local music scene, playing under the name of Third and Monroe with Susan Villella, and serving on the music committee for the Herndon Festival. He played regularly at open mic nights at Jimmy’s Old Town Tavern and The Old Brogue. Stuart’s passion was live music, in addition to playing himself, he was a great fan and friend of many area musicians. Stuart is survived by his wife, Janice Ward Jewell, and his daughter, Olivia Grace Jewell, as well as his brothers, Cliff Jewell and Robert Jewell, and his father and step-mother, Kristina Jewell. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Claudia Drake Jewell. His extended family of sisters- and parents-in-law also mourn his passing. A memorial service is planned for September.
