Obituary of Barbara C. Polk-Wallace

Barbara Polk-Wallace, 87, of Durham, NC passed away on July 10, 2016. Barbara Polk-Wallace was born on December 1, 1928 in Grayson County, VA to Paul and Mabel Cox. She was preceded in death by husband Robert K. Polk, her brother Sam Cox, and sister Sharon Gennett. She is survived by a brother, Dan Cox of VA, Jim Cox of Idaho, and sister Nancy Estrada of Georgia as well as her children Paula Moore (Howard), Marsha Scouten (Jeff), and Robert Polk, Jr. Barbara was the loving Grandmother to six grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren. Barbara married David Smith Wallace (deceased) in 2002 and was blessed with a second family, David’s children Steve Wallace, Mike Wallace (Robin), Doug Wallace (Meta), and LeAnn Wallace as well as many loving and accepting grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Barbara worked as the Purchasing Agent for the Town of Vienna, VA between 1965 and 1985 and was an Elder in the Presbyterian Church. She loved her friends and collected them wherever she went. Barbara was full of generous hospitality, and brought flowers to glory in her gardens. She was strong but humble, good and wise. She loved reading and shared her artistic nature and abilities with many. Barbara will be deeply missed and remembered with much love by all that were blessed to know her. The family will receive friends from 9:30 AM until 10:30 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Adams Green Funeral Home, Herndon, VA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA with the Rev. Ann Ross officiating. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM on Friday, July 15, 2016 at Elkton Presbyterian Church, 104 Ashby Avenue, Elkton, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, the Christian Appalachian Project, Inc or any organization that benefits the well-being of children.
