I took one look at the picture and said to myself "that's Walter as I remember him", loving family man and a so much fun. My thoughts are with the Saunders family today and I know he is in Gods hands now and at peace.
May God be with you all through this difficult time.

I loved Walter. He was probably one of the most upbeat, happy, generous, fun, funny, loving, friendly (and the list goes on) people I've ever been privileged to know and call family. Growing up with he and others in the Saunders clan was Americana at its finest. Picnics, Christmas parties, Labor Day Farm parties, and of course all those Redskins games and tailgate parties (I only go to go to these w/Walter, Dick, Tommy and Buddy Newlond on the rare occasions when my dad -- Buddy O'Meara -- brought me along, but it was ALWAYS a special).
Later in life, after my dad moved away and then passed away, I carried on the Redskins game tradition and each year when it was time to pick-up my tickets I either caught up on the comings and goings of the family directly with Walter or with Marc. And boy would Walter go on and on about all his grand-kids and how wonderful they were and much he loved "wrassling" with his grandson. Walter was a spectacular story teller and captured you from the moment he started telling a story or vignette until the end. And it always made me feel good.
There is no question he will be missed, and I leave my heartfelt condolences to the entire Saunders family, but mostly to Nancy, Kathy, Beth and Marc. You all got the best of Walter all the time, and how blessed you are to have had all these many years with him.
May he be in God's grace.

My hat is off to Nancy, the kids, their spouses and grandkids for all the love and support they constantly provided in taking care of Walter. I vividly recall so many good times over the years. I just think Bob Hope summed it up best way back when: Thanks for the memories. RIP

Walter was my bookend" and I have many fond memories starting from an early age. He has been a great brother to me, brother-in-law to Butch, and uncle to my kids.
Walter's generous nature benefited many people starting with Nana on down. My family loved to see him come by the house because he always came carrying goodies, eggs, ect. And he was full of stories! Also going to his house on Christmas day was a big deal and the farm picnics were a lot of fun!
Butch & I learned so much from Walter's experiences and he will be missed very much!
RIP Brother!

Walter was my first cousin. There was a powerful presence about him, even when he became very ill. As the oldest of a rollicking bunch, he was looked up to and respected by all of his countless relatives. I especially recall how quick he always was with jokes- he was a very funny man.
My condolences to Nancy, Kathy, Beth, Marc and all his very, very large extended family. He will be remembered fondly by everyone.
