Obituary of Lydia Lenora Gillespie

Lydia Blake Gillespie, born July 23, 1937, widow of Lt. Col. Clarke McKinley Gillespie, Jr. (U.S.Army), died July 25, 2016, in Ashburn, Virginia. She was predeceased by her parents, James M. and Lydia Pruett Blake, and brother James Blake III. Born in Mobile, Alabama, she was a graduate of Huntingdon College. She lived in the northern Virginia area for over forty-five years, and worked twenty of those years for the American Association of School Administrators and in other areas of education. Survivors include her son Clarke M. Gillespie III (Genie) of Chicago, Illinois; her daughters Lisa G. Reckmeyer (Tony) and Laurie Gillespie of Ashburn, Virginia; her granddaughters McKinley, Sarah, and Hannah; and her sister Jamie Blake of Mobile, Alabama. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 27, 2016, 11 a.m. at Annandale United Methodist Church, 6935 Columbia Pike, Annandale, VA 22003. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery on September 23, 2016. Memorial donations may be made to Public Broadcasting, Huntingdon College, or your favorite charity.
