Obituary of Jerilynn T. Platt

Please share a memory of Jerilynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jerilynn Platt was born in New York City in 1942, the daughter of Marion Adams Tucker, a secretary, and David Tucker, a salesman in the garment district and veteran of the U.S. Army. She moved to Mount Vernon, N.Y., in her youth and then to Montrose, N.Y., where she graduated high school with honors. Much of her career was spent as an office manager for Tri-State and Jackel Farms Apple Orchards in Highland and later LaGrange, N.Y. After retirement, she started File Safe, her own successful business which assisted others in starting and managing their own small businesses. She was also an active and well-respected member of the Literacy Volunteers of America in Poughkeepsie. After moving to Herndon, Virginia, she spent her time managing the Kendrick Court library, assisting with the building’s social activities, and enjoying her granddaughter, Sabrina. Jeri, as she was known to many, was very active in her daughters’ lives. She helped her eldest, Stacey, begin and support her career as a teacher often volunteering in and out of the classroom. For years the two enjoyed playing challenging thinking and Mensa games and competing with each other in the evenings. They loved to cook together and imagined a restaurant serving their best recipes. Jeri assisted her youngest daughter Jody Rose in high school drama club productions and was a fixture at the high school. Jeri was considered a mother figure to many of her daughter’s friends from high school until the day she died. Once in Virginia, Jeri stayed active in her daughters’ lives as well as her granddaughter’s. She was a frequent visitor at her granddaughter’s school and gymnastic academy where many of the gymnasts and their parents referred to her as “Grandma”. Jeri is survived by her two daughters, Stacey and Jody Rose; her son-in-law, John Farmer; granddaughter, Sabrina; her sister, Sandi Fronhert; nieces Amanda and Holli Parulski; three grandnieces; and her brother, Alan Tucker.
