My deepest condolences to the Lannon Family. I was so saddened when I heard of Jim’s passing. Jim was one of the first agents I met when I started with DS in 1991. He was such a pleasure to talk to. He always had a smile and a joke and took the time to explain issues and give me the how and why things were done. The patience and guidance he gave me were invaluable to a new agent just coming on board with DS.
I was very fortunate to get to actually work with Jim beginning 2013 – 2015 in the Physical Security Programs Office. Jim’s leadership, storytelling and friendship never ceased and it was nice to get to work with an old friend.
I know the family is heartbroken but know Jim was respected and admired within the Diplomatic Security Community.
He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

I first met Jim when he gave the CI briefing to our Basic Agent class and recall his ending the presentation with advice: take care of family and loved ones first. This was something he reinforced over the years as we carpooled, collaborated in a variety of investigations, or when I delivered Colombian coffee to his house while on leave from Bogota. He also was very generous to everyone, always affording his wisdom and insights in hopes of improving DS and helping the individual. We can all take solace that we were fortunate enough to have Jim as a colleague and friend
My condolences to his family on Jim's passing.

I am very sorry to hear of the passing of my old friend, mentor and boss Jim Lannon. Though I have not seen him in recent years I still think of him regularly. I was the first medical officer in the State Department to be attached to Jim's team at the very beginning 2001-2003.
Two people could never have been more different than Jim and myself. We became good friends in spite of differing views on nearly everything except our mission to build the WMD Countermeasures Program. I liked him a lot and mourn his passing. Because of him and the excellent team he built around himself my time attached to Diplomatic Security (DS/SPC/WMD) was the best tour of my 18 year career in the Foreign Service.
To his family and friends I offer my sincere condolences. I wish you all strength in this time of need. To my friend Jim I wish him Godspeed ..."second star to the right and straight on 'til morning." Rest in peace old buddy.

Carol, Michael, Tim and families,
We all know Jim is in a better place but will miss him nonetheless. Loretta and I have a special place in our hearts for Jim and we ask that you accept our deepest condolences in your time of sorrow.
Jim was the first person I met in SY on my first day on the job, 14 Jan 1974. I knew I had joined a first class organization but was reminded of that every time I interacted with Jim. He was the consummate professional moving easily between SY and the greater diplomatic community and also in his relationships with counterparts in other agencies. He was held in extremely high regard by his colleagues as witnessed by the many awards he received throughout his career. It was my honor to serve as Jim's deputy on the CI staff and to learn the trade from a master. Jim's leadership, professionalism, integrity, and personal friendship will be sorely missed. Rest in peace my friend. Mike

Please accept my sincere condolences to the family and friends of Mr. James Lannon. I first met Jim in Apr 2000 while working as a contract instructor for the DOS WMD program. He was an excellent leader, compassionate program manager and genuinely concerned about his employees. I can recall Jim working to improve the quality of life for his instructors during there frequent overseas travel. Jim was a great ambassador of the DOS WMD program and he personally positively impacted the safety and readiness of hundreds of thousands of people around the world. Jim you will be greatly missed, but your legacy survives forever. My only comfort is knowing your home with the lord. Rest in Peace.
Very Respectfully,
Rob

Jim had a long and distinguished career with the Diplomatic Security Service. I was fortunate to interact with him and learn from him in Santo Domingo and again when I was RSO Geneva and he, as Director of security for ACDA, provided us with excellent, timely and professional support, It was only when we worked closely together in developing a Chemical Biological countermeasures program for State however, that I came to know Jim not only as a consummate professional but also as a loving family man with an excellent sense of humor and more than his share of good common sense. My condolences to the Lannon family, we've lost on of the good ones.

You will always be remembered as a friend, supporter and colleague. Your help and advice was invaluable during critical times in DS, especially during our growing and expansion times. I always enjoyed our blunt conversations, even the ones after I retired. You brought so much knowledge and expertise to DS. You will never be forgotten. Rest in Peace my friend.

It has been an enormous honor and privilege to work for Jim. I have known Jim for decades, but it was only in the terrible days and months following the attacks of September 11th 2001, that I came to work for Jim and I found a man of incredible integrity, intellectual and moral honesty, and rock solid, uncompromising support for his staff and for our collective vital mission. He was a patriot who deeply loved our country and dedicated his entire life defending all of us. I will always remember Jim with love.

Maureen and I would like to express our sincere condolences on the passing of our friend. Jim's legacy of leadership in SY and DS since the 1970s embodies the extraordinary leadership, integrity and ethics he brought to work every day. His kindness towards those around him and his sense of humor were remarkable. A grateful country and friends mourn a great man's passing.

Mr. Lannon was a fair and honest man to work for. I served under him for 13 years. He was the rock solid representation of our division, many faces came and went but he was always there. He always had a true care for the individuals first and mission second. It's a surreal feeling knowing he has passed on, but alas his aches and pains are no more. His shared stories and life time knowledge he so quickly shared will be remembered always. He will be sorely missed and always remembered. May God grant your family peace in your time of loss.

Carol, Tim and family, Mike and family,
Keith and I want to express our sincere sympathy to all of you. Jim was a very special friend. He will be missed. I recently talked to another co-worker, Pat Hoffer, and we both expressed our feelings that Jim was the epitome of a gentleman. "The face of sanity" in our often chaotic office! You remain in our prayers.
