I am so sorry to hear of Gertie's passing..... I remember her and Charlie from attending Calvary Baptist Church.... I grew up in Ashburn, and as a young girl I volunteered at the Ashburn Fire Dept for their ham dinners.... Such a long time ago..... She will be truly missed.. Just know that she is at peace with Charlie... Thoughts and Prayers to the entire family at this most difficult time.

Mrs..Fletcher was a remarkable person. As recently as 3 or 4 years ago, Barbara would e-mail me about something your Mom had done (mowing her lawn or shoveling snow from her driveway); and we'd laugh and say - Golly, she puts us to shame - we can barely keep up with her and she's in her 90's!
I enjoyed many get-togethers at her house over the years and, of course, her wonderful cooking. She always made me feel just like one of the family.
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Frankie

Here is Gertie trying on my leather jacket at our yard sale a couple years ago. She looked so cute in it! I am going to miss her. Sitting with her on her front yard swing and listening to stories was one of my favorite things. I hope she is content now that she is with everyone she missed so much. Christine Noddin

I did not know her but, because of her efforts and work for AVFRD, I am able to proudly serve there today. Thank you, Mrs. Fletcher, for your part in building this legacy.

Aunt Gertie was a great lady. I will never forget the wonderful summers I got to spend with her and Uncle Charlie both at the farm and the house in Sterling. I remember well the great family gatherings, the food and the laughs. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Gertrude was a blessing to this world, and I have no doubt that she was welcomed with open arms in Heaven by every person who knows her. Since I first met her in 1970, she and her entire family have held a special place in my family's hearts. I deeply feel our loss, but I know that one day I will see her smiling face.

Gertie was like a mother to me. If you look up Lady in a dictionary, they will have her as an example.
