To Vicky's family
I went to high school with Vicky... and it was very good to meet her again after many years in Christchurch when she was here with Gareth. The day was warm and sparkling and full of sunshine.
She was such a star in her academic field, forging the way for others in engineering particularly in this country and also overseas.
The last year or so appears to have been what she as a person was all about - staunch and courageous and true to herself.
Go well, Vicky's family.
With love from Ailsa

Dear Dua, Gareth and family,
We are so heart felt sorry to hear of Vicky's passing. Words fail us in times of grief. We have lovely memories of Vicky and she will be missed even from this far away.
The Beckenham family, especially our Simon, would always look forward to receiving Vicky's card and gift at Christmas time as they were always so unusual. For me, the most memorable one, which she sent in the 1970s, was 'astronaut ice cream' which we all sampled on the patio on Christmas Day.
It was such a great opportunity to see her only back in July and she was as usual 'the lovely Vicky'.
Sending our love and condolences
Kathy and Wayne

I could not believe it when I read your email. Words cannot express my sadness. Victoria and I worked for an environment consultant firm together for three years at City of Irvine. She was a professional and intelligent woman and impressed me a lot. She was a kind friend as well. We kept contact for many years. I admire her, and the memory becomes a treasure. Please accept my deepest condolences for your loss. May your heart and soul find pease and comfort.

My sincere condolences to Dr Guvanasen and his family on their loss of Victoria. I know she will be sorely missed and words can do little to lessen pain and sorrow. I was Head of Chemical Engineering at the University of Canterbury in 1967 when Vicky came into the Department. She was one of a trio of remarkable women who were among the earliest to enter the School of Engineering - until then, an all-male bastion. After graduating with Honours, she undertook a Master's Degree under my supervision. I still have a copy of her excellent thesis on air pollution in Christchurch. Almost 50 years later, memories of Vicky remain vivid in my mind. I followed her subsequent career as best I could, and was very impressed by her professional achievements. It was a delight to meet up with her again when she came back to the Department some two decades or more ago. Victoria was a delightful student; a woman of great character and integrity; and, I am sure, a wonderful wife, mother and friend. She was taken too soon, but I know that memories of her will live on.

I was but a new young lecturer and taught her for a number of courses in her two final years of her BE(Hons). Vicky was my first female undergraduate research student and one of the best ever. It is a great shock to learn of her passing. Our deepest condolences to family and friends.
