Obituary of Lawrence Frederick Hagan

Hagan, Lawrence F. “ Larry” (Age 73), Of Centreville, VA. Our beloved Larry went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 28, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Betsy W. Burkart; his children Eric Hagan, Chris Hagan, Alex Burkart, and Ginny Barron; and his grandchildren Madison, Mira, William, Carrie, Christopher, and Connor. Larry was born in Oakland, CA. He moved to VA in 1995, and was employed by Fairfax County Public Schools as a teacher of history and science. He retired in 2011. Larry served his country proudly as an Army pilot during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged as a major after serving a number of years in the reserves. His Christian faith was very important to Larry. He read and studied a great deal. He served as an elder in the Presbyterian Church. After joining Floris United Methodist Church Larry served in the music ministry, Grace Ministries, the Latino ministry, and ministry to the children of the Child Rescue Center in Sierra Leone. His hobbies were: singing and playing musical instruments; researching the Vietnam War; and repairing his vintage sailboats, a childhood dream. Larry was an outgoing, kind, caring man, and he will be greatly missed. The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Tuesday, November 1st at Floris United Methodist Church 13600 Frying Pan Rd. Herndon, VA. where a service will be held on Wednesday at 11 AM. Interment will be held at 11 AM at Cedar Grove Cemetery in New Bern, NC. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to www.helpingchildrenworldwide.org
