Obituary of Elizabeth Greig Dye

Elizabeth (Betsy) Greig Dye Beloved and devoted wife, mother, teacher, and friend. Died November 30 at her longtime home in Oakton, Va, after a spirited battle with cancer. Born May 26, 1944, in Pittsburgh, PA, to Thomas G Greig Jr and Elizabeth W Greig. Graduated in 1965 from Duke University along with lifelong best friend and husband of 51 years, John M Dye Sr. Taught mathematics in San Jose CA unified school district and then spent over three decades instilling character, honor, and citizenship in 3 and 4 year olds at St Timothy’s Episcopal Church PreSchool in Herndon, VA. She touched the lives of countless students including many second generation families during her long service there and enjoyed every minute of it. Betsy is survived by: husband John M Dye Sr; brother Thomas G Greig III; son Dr. John M Dye Jr, his wife Dr. Kathryn E Dye and their children Michael and Lauryn; and son Christian A Dye and his wife Kaitlin Hoey Dye. A Memorial service open to the public in her honor will be held at St Timothy’s Episcopal Church, 432 Van Buren St, Herndon, VA, on January 7 at 1130 am. It is suggested that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital to battle cancer in children.
