I never had the pleasure or honor to meet Mr. Lee-Thorp, but I was fortunate to pick up a copy of his book, "Washington Engineered," second-hand a few years ago, and have recently delved into it once again. The materials and subjects covered are absolutely fascinating, and I wish to thank him, albeit posthumously, for his valuable work. (I am not a professional engineer, but I have worked in civil engineering firms and have portrayed a military field engineer at Civil War reenactments for decades, and come from a family of engineers of various disciplines. These interests are enhanced by books such as "Washington Engineered.")
Thank you, Mr. Lee-Thorp!

I was so sorry to learn of Vin's death in the Washington Post. He and I go back to the 50's when we both worked for the General Electric Company. In fact we roomed together for about six months in Schenectady New York during which period we skied in Burlington Vermont and travelled to my home in Westerly Rhode Island where Vin met my parents. He was a good athlete and I was impressed by the fact that he could do a double front flip off the high board in one of the local swimming pools. Years later when we both moved to the Washington area Vin and I got together on several occasions. I recall one evening when Vin and his wife invited us to their home for dinner. We were quite impressed with the delicious curry based meal that he prepared. Vin was a passionate man with a desire to achieve and to this end he succeeded. My sincere condolences go to his wife Jennifer and his children.

I am so sorry to hear of your father's passing but reading the obituary, it seems he continued to enjoy life in the years after our path's parted ways. I remember his stories about life in South Africa and how to serve and eat a proper curry. May your memories of him comfort you in the difficult time.
