Obituary of Donald A. Stalzer
Donald A. Stalzer, 83, passed away at his home on Sunday, January 8th. Born and raised in Chicago, IL, he was the son of Clarence and Dorothy Stalzer, twin brother to Dr. Richard (Mary Ellen) and uncle to Richard, Brian and Julie (Gonzolo).
Don was ordained a priest in 1960 for the Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago, IL. His first assignment was at Sacred Heart Parish in Melrose Park. From 1962 to 1976, he resided at Saint Margaret Mary Parish and taught mathematics at Quigley North Seminary. His last assignment was as co-pastor at Saint Boniface Parish from 1976-1978. In the summer of 1978 he resigned from the priesthood and took a job in the insurance industry and later was employed as a systems analyst in the health care field.
In 1984 he married Patricia Brady and became a step father and grandfather to 10 children and 4 grandchildren. At the time of his death, he was grandfather to 26 and great grandfather to 4.
After 17 years in the health care industry, Don and Pat retired to Wilmington, NC where he tutored children in mathematics at the Huntington Learning Center. He continued to do so for 15 years while he and Pat enjoyed a retirement of golf, travel and time at the beach.
In October of 2015, they relocated to Great Falls, VA to live with their daughter Barbara (Mike O’Donnell) and grandchildren Riley, Jack, Tom, Ben and Mikey.
Services will be held at Saints Faith, Hope and Charity Catholic Church (191 Linden Street, Winnetka, IL) on Tuesday January 17, 2017. Visitation at 10 am with mass to follow.
