Obituary of Mary Theresa Starkey
Mary Theresa (Yuhas) Starkey
1954 – 2017
Mary was born to the late Anna (Demanczyk) Yuhas and David Yuhas of Natalie PA. She passed away suddenly on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at the age of 62.
She attended St Mary’s Ukranian Catholic School, Marion Heights PA and graduated from Mt. Carmel HS, PA in 1973. After graduation she moved to Falls Church, Virginia where she met her husband Jim. She and Jim worked together to run his succesfull security business in northern Virginia. Mary continued to run the business after her husband’s death in 2001 and remained a successful business woman throughout her life. She and Jim were married 20 years.
Mary was the center of her family and provided a festive gathering place where holiday traditions were created, and her love of cooking and entertaining were enjoyed by everyone. She was an accomplished pastry chef in her spare time and loved cooking Polish and Ukranian family recipes . She also enjoyed gardening, boating on Lake Anna, and spent several years passionately outlining her family ancestry. She was an avid fan of Penn State & Redskins football. She made people laugh and would often break out in song and dance at any occasion with her feisty spirit.
Mary’s legacy will be treasured by her son Michael of Ashburn VA, her partner Dennis Rogers, sisters Pat McCloskey (Newark, DE), Cheryl Solt and husband Mark Fugina (Austin, TX), brother Dave Yuhas (Montross, VA) and partner Debbie Blase; along with several nieces and nephews.
