Obituary of Ernest Howard Murphy
On January 14, Ernest Howard Murphy passed peacefully at his home in Sterling, VA with family by his side.
Born on August 25, 1927 in Dentsville, Maryland to George H. Murphy and Margaret (Doshie) Murphy. One of 11 children, he grew up in southern Maryland, where his family farmed tobacco. He was drafted into the US Army in 1945 and served in Los Alamos, New Mexico. After his discharge he returned to Maryland working at various jobs, eventually becoming an electrical foreman. He moved to Sterling, VA in 1967 and worked at RE Worsham until 1988. Together with his sons, he founded Murphy Electric Co., Inc.; a commercial electrical contracting company. Known as Howard, he enjoyed gardening, the Atlanta Braves, annual fishing trips to Florida and visits back to southern Maryland. A quiet man, Howard took pleasure in the simple joys of everyday life.
He is survived by his dear friend Wanda Jean Burns and his children: Ernest H. Murphy, Jr., Francis W. Murphy, Patricia A. Stone, Gloria J. Stone, Dwayne K. Murphy, Bruce E. Murphy, Mary Jayne Branzelle, Carole Aycock, and Dannette Richards, and numerous grand and great-grand children.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm, Wednesday, January 18, 2017 and a funeral service will take place at noon on January 19th both at Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA. Following the service internment will be at the National Memorial Gardens in Falls Church, VA.
