Obituary of Anna F. Perkins
Anna Fisher Perkins, 88, passed away on January 13, 2017 following a brief illness.
Born to Lithuanian immigrant parents, Joseph and Lena Fisher, and raised in Sebec, Maine, Anna married Carl E. Perkins in July 1946. In late-1963, Anna, Carl, their four children, and Anna’s father moved to Orono, Maine where Carl was employed at the University of Maine as the head of the University’s Transportation Department. In 1965, Anna also joined the University of Maine family working as secretary to the Dean of Men and later joining the Chemical Engineering Department for more than 25 years as Administrative Assistant to the Director of the Chemical Engineering Department. Many of the Chemical Engineering and Pulp and Paper students became her "adopted children," often spending time at their Orono home. Upon Anna’s retirement in August 1991, a scholarship fund was established in her name for her contribution to the Chemical Engineering Department, and for "giving unselfishly to the faculty, students, staff, and alumni which she served with diligence and care."
Following the death of her husband in 2000, Anna moved to Virginia to live with her daughter, Sue, joining the United Christian Parish, the Newcomers Club of Reston, and making many new, and long-lasting friendships. Many of these friends often spoke of her resilience, humor, and especially her Maine accent that never went away.
Anna is survived by her son Glenn and his wife Linda and grandson Brian, granddaughter Charity and great grandsons Brody and Landon, grandson Todd and great grandson Keegyn; daughter Susan and grandson Matthew and wife Shauna, and great grandsons Barrett and August; son Jerry and his wife Marita, grandson Josh and wife Sarah, and great grandchildren Conner, Isaac, and Meredith; granddaughter Meghan and great granddaughter Nora; and granddaughter JoAnna and her husband Matt; and her son Brian and his wife Kristen and granddaughter Abigail.
Anna will be buried at a graveside service at the Sebec Cemetery in the summertime.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Anna F. Perkins Scholarship Fund, University of Maine Pulp and Paper Foundation, University of Maine, 217 Jenness Hall, Orono, Maine 04469-5737
