Obituary of Michael Joseph Berman

Michael Joseph Berman of Herndon, VA passed on January 19, 2017 after a battle with brain cancer. He was 56 years young. Michael was a 30-year employee of Carrier Corporation (a UTC company) where he held several key positions in the Commercial Business Services Division, specifically working with large HVAC temperature controls projects. Michael led an ordinary life, taking pleasure in spending time with family and friends, reading, traveling, walking, eating out and watching tv in his favorite recliner. He was also very active on neighborhood and swim club boards. Originally from New York City, Michael moved to Eastchester, NY (in Westchester County) at age 9. He became a bar mitzvah at Young Israel of Scarsdale at age 13. At Eastchester High School Michael was involved in the marching band. He attended college at Tufts University in Massachusetts where he majored in Mechanical Engineering and met his wife Shari. They were married in New Jersey and lived in New York City prior to Michael’s work promotion which brought them to Northern Virginian in 1989. Over the past 27+ years Michael’s social circle grew extensively, especially as their family doubled in size. Michael is survived by his wife, his son Alex and daughter Rachel, his mother Sally, sister Monica and brother Marc, stepmother Gloria, his Watstein in-laws, and aunts, uncles, and cousins in the United States and Israel.
