Obituary of Bill Glenn Martin
Bill Glenn Martin, dearly loved husband, father, and grandfather, departed this life on January 30, 2017, at his home in Ashburn, Virginia. He was 83.
Bill grew up in Long Beach, California, with his parents and older sister, all of whom have preceded him in death. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, and then resumed his studies at Long Beach State University, earning a B.S. in Business Administration. He met his wife-to-be several years later while living and working in San Francisco, and after their marriage in her home city of Omaha, Nebraska he moved with her to San Diego, California. There he and she raised their three children, and he pursued a long career as a commercial insurance underwriter for several large insurance companies. After he and his wife retired, they moved to northern Virginia to be near their children and grandchildren.
A well-respected citizen of his community, Bill was an avid golfer, a coffee connoisseur, a voracious reader of all genres and a long-time member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America.
Mr. Martin is survived by his wife of 55 years, Diane L. Martin; his three children, Theresa (Tracy), Russell (Russ) and Theodore (Ted); two granddaughters, Rennie and Carena; and extended family and friends.
A memorial service will be held at Community Lutheran Church in Sterling, Virginia, on 9 February, for family and friends. Interment will be at Prospect Hill Cemetery in Elkhorn, Nebraska, near Omaha.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to Lutheran World Relief, Community Lutheran Church, or the American Heart Association.
