Obituary of George Nicholas Wahl, Jr.

George N Wahl, Jr, 89, of Oak Hill, VA, passed away on February 12, 2017 at Tall Oaks Assisted Living, Reston, VA. Born on August 12, 1927 in Rochester, NY, George was the oldest son of the late George N Wahl, Sr. and the late Bertha L Wahl. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy, and son David. George spent the first half of his life in Rochester, NY and attended East High school where he earned varsity letters in baseball, football and basketball. Following graduation from East High, he served briefly in the Navy towards the end of World War II. After his service in the Navy, George returned home to Rochester, married Lucille, had children and spent his entire career working in the Elevator construction field for a number of companies including Otis, Haughton, Schindler and Millar. George loved sports and had the opportunity to play semi-pro football and enjoyed bowling in a local league. Following the family’s move to Oak Hill in the early 1980s, George became an avid fan of the Washington Redskins. George retired in 1994 after a lengthy career of 46 years. George was a man of integrity, who was committed to his family, and enjoyed a dry sense of humor. He was also very generous and kind to everyone he knew and met. George is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Lucille of VA; sons, Gregory (Karen) of NY, Douglas (Tamara) of VA, Timothy (Anita) of NY, & Jeffrey of VA. Also brother Richard E of NY and sister Gail Lindstrom of CA. Grandchildren: Justen Wahl, Landon Wahl, Amy Porter, David Briggs, Brian S. Wahl, Nichole M. Willit, Alexander J. Wahl, Erik Hartwig, Adam Hartwig, Natalie L Wahl and Samantha C. Wahl. Great Grandchildren: Madeleine Wahl, Meredith Wahl, Ronin Wahl, Andrew Briggs, Lennon Briggs, MacKenzie Briggs and Alex Briggs, Kaleb Hartwig, Anna Leigh Hartwig, Ryan Hartwig, Cameron Hartwig, Zackary Hartwig and Annalise Hartwig Please consider honoring George with a donation to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America, American Heart Association or a favorite charity.
