Obituary of Mary Louise Tahernia

Born in Pennsylvania to parents of Lithuanian descent, Mary Lou was the youngest of three siblings. One of her passions growing up was playing the trumpet in the school band. Following high school graduation, her compassionate nature drew her to the field of nursing, where she met and eventually married the love of her life, Cyrus, and moved overseas for a period of time. The couple then returned to the United States with their three children and settled in Oklahoma. After raising their family, they moved to Kansas, where they lived happily for thirteen years. The couple retired to Reston, Virginia, and also spent their winters in central Florida. Mary Lou was an avid Bridge player, and loved to travel. She and her husband enjoyed many cruises, and her fondest memories were of those taken with her extended family. She loved to read books and cook special Persian dishes. She took pleasure in listening to music, where her taste in music ran the gamut from Tony Bennett and Patsy Cline to Willie Nelson. Mary Lou always had a smile and loved to laugh. She was fun loving and was described as a sweet soul. She liked to tell stories and funny jokes. She loved to watch spectator sports, especially baseball, football, and college basketball. But above all, she liked to talk about her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Dr. Cyrus Tahernia, her daughter Susan, two sons, Louis and David, and seven grandchildren. The family will receive relatives and friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM with eulogy at 7:30, Tuesday, February 21, 2017, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, Virginia 20170. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 22, 2017, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 750 Peachtree Street, Herndon, Virginia 20170. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, Virginia, following the Mass, which, in turn, will be followed by a reception at her husband’s home.
