Please share a memory of Frank to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frank Raeburn (Rae) Farrar passed away peacefully at home on Monday February 27, 2017, after living a full and active life. Rae was born on September 28, 1928 to Francis and Mildred (Wells) Farrar in Reno, Nevada. He grew up in Fresno, California with his parents and his sister Sue. Rae proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. While serving at Fort Devens Massachusetts, he met his wife Maureen (McGrath). They had been married over 60 years. Together they had three children: Bruce (wife, Carol), Kevin (wife Gail) and Colleen (husband Brad) and four grandchildren: Braeden and Jonathan Wist, Jacob and Thomas Farrar. After honorably discharging from the Army, Rae continued his public service, working for the federal government for over 30 years and retiring in 1985. He was particularly proud of the early work he did on the night vision program for the Army. Never one to sit still, even after his official retirement, Rae continued to work into his early 80’s. Rae was a long time active member of the Loudoun Elks Lodge #2406 in Sterling Virginia. He was also active in local chapters of the California State Society, and was active in other local community organizations (Christmas in April, Habitat for Humanity, etc.). Rae was a mainstay at the Elks lodge. He was known as a friendly man who was always ready to land a hand to any who needed it. He enjoyed sharing stories of his many experiences with friends and strangers alike, and always had a friendly word for anyone that he met. He enjoyed dining at numerous local establishments, and his outgoing personality and smile ensured made him numerous friends everywhere he went. A service will be held on Wednesday, 8 March from 6 to 8pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon Virginia. A memorial service will also be held at the Loudoun Elks Lodge on Thursday, 9 March, from 5-8pm. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made in Frank Farrar’s name to the American Diabetes Association.
