Obituary of Ruth P. Hershkowitz

Ruth Hershkowitz October 4, 1921 - March 5, 2017 Ruth Hershkowitz, predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Emanuel Hershkowitz, died Sunday at Reston Hospital. Ruth was born in New York the daughter of Eastern European immigrants. She had 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Ruth lived in Reston for many years and was the Education Director at the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation. After retirement, Ruth and Manny were avid volunteers at Wolf Trap and the U.S. Olympics as well as in community activities in Reston. Most recently Ruth and Manny resided at Ashby Ponds in Ashburn. Ruth is survived by her children, Stephen (Louise), Jared (Fran), and Meryl (Peter); grandchildren Rana (Mark), Jo (Steve), Arianna, Brittany and Steven; great grandchildren, James, Sean, Alan, and Jason. Services will be held at the Northern Virginia Hebrew Congregation on Wednesday March 8 at 10:30 am. Later in the day, a gathering will take place from 4 to 7:30 pm at the home of Stephen and Louise Hershkowitz in Reston. Donations may be made in Ruth's memory to the Ashby Pond Scholarship Fund, the NVHC Religious School, or UNICEF.
