Obituary of Christopher Gerald Shipley

Christopher Gerald Shipley departed this life on March 17, 2017 after a brief illness and with family at his side. Memorial service will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170 on May 6, 2017 from 2:00 - 3:00 pm (visitation) with a service starting at 3:00 pm. Chris was born in Fairfax, VA to John and Barbara Shipley on September 8, 1971. He grew up in Vienna, VA. and was a graduate of James Madison High School. He went on to further his education learning skills as a certified CDL Class A driver and distributor. Affectionally known as Ship, he is remembered by coworkers for his great presence, big smile and his infectious laugh. "Ship was a great truck driver and a great representative for the product he delivered. He never ran from a difficult day. Rain, heat, snow, every terrible condition of weather you can think of he got it done, and got it done safely. His customers loved him." Sports played a big part of Chris's life. He played Vienna youth sports - baseball, football, basketball. He continued to play football for the James Madison High School Warhawks. In later years he developed a love for golf and became an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Washington Nationals baseball team. He also enjoyed volunteer coaching for the Reston Youth Association where he made an impact on the players he coached. Chris is lovingly remembered by his family- parents John and Barbara, his brother Scott and sister-in- law Stephanie, nephew Tyler , niece Peyton , his Aunt Sandi Kane, Uncle Bob Kane, cousins Linda DeBlois and husband Bob with son Ryan and daughter Patti, and Suzanne Egress and husband Todd with son Brandon; he is also remembered by many of his beloved friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Reston Youth Association, RYA, PO Box 2578, Reston, Va. 20195
