Obituary of Erlinda Monces Reyes

Linda "Lola" Monces Reyes, age 77, died March 17, 2017. Her final days were spent at home surrounded by her loving family, which was her lifelong wish. Born January 12, 1940, in Baguio City, Philippines, to Benigno Monces and Salustiana Nabor. Linda graduated from The University of Santo Tomas with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She immigrated to the United States in 1969. Her strength and perseverance is evident in her 37 years of working as a Registered Nurse. In 1990, she was certified as an RN First Assistant (RNFA), working in John Hopkins Hospital and Washington Hospital Center. In 2006 she retired from nursing. This was a dramatic change in her life and it provided her with an opportunity to help care and raise her grandchildren. Linda was a gardener and a devout member of the Catholic Church. Linda loved plants and spent many years maintaining plants in her home and in her yard. She had collected many varieties of orchids, which was her favorite flower. Linda also spent time volunteering for different organizations affiliated with the church and also enjoyed shopping, decorating, exploring local parks with her grandchildren and practicing various forms of martial arts and achieved the rank of a Tae Kwon Do Master. Linda had a generous heart, brilliant intellect, and the tenaciousness that allowed her to accomplish her goals. Her legacy of hard work, dedication, service, devotion and love of family and faith in God will remain with all who were privileged to know her. Her journey to our Lord leaves behind her daughters, Maritess “Maria” Oettinger, and Susan Landrum as well as son-in-laws David “Scooter” Landrum and Nick Oettinger. Her cherished grandchildren are Shane Haberkorn, Andrew Landrum, Alyssa Landrum, Allison Landrum and Isla Oettinger. Visitation will be held at Adams-Green Funeral home in Herndon, Virginia on Sunday, March 26th from 6:00 – 8:00pm. The Funeral Mass will take place the following day, March 27th, 10:00am at St. Joseph Catholic Church immediately followed by burial and graveside service at Chestnut Grove Cemetery. Adams-Green Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
