Obituary of Stephen Charles Hanlin

Stephen “Steve” Charles Hanlin, 46, husband of Dawne (Orszewski) Hanlin and father of Ava Quinn Hanlin passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2017 in Sterling, Virginia after an extended illness. Steve was born January 1, 1971 in Erie, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Charles “Skip” Hanlin and Arlene (Krol) Hanlin. He graduated in 1989 from Stuarts Draft High School in Stuarts Draft, Virginia and in 1994 earned a Bachelor of Science in Commerce from the University of Virginia McIntire School of Commerce. While at UVA, Steve devoted most of his time to the Cavalier Daily newspaper as photo editor and then Business Manager. He developed his love of photography during this time. He joined Terralign Inc. upon graduation and became the Director of Client Services. In addition to his loving wife and daughter, Steve is survived by his brother David, wife, Emily (Green) Hanlin; nieces, Dana and Carly of Ashburn, Virginia in addition to numerous aunts, uncles and extended family who loved him dearly. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 am Monday, April 24, 2017, at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling, Virginia. Immediately following the service, family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve’s life at a luncheon in the church hall. Interment will be at a later date. In keeping with Steve’s top priority to protect and provide for his daughter, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation be made to a memorial fund established for Ava.
