Obituary of Alice Dixon Glenn

Alice "Betty" Elizabeth Dixon Glenn, 84 of Great Falls, Virginia formally of Ashburn, Virginia lost her battle with Alzheimer’s disease May 7, 2017.  She was a resident of BrightView Senior Living Center.  Betty was born in Roanoke, VA on December 13, 1932, to Robert Reid and Alice Lelia Dixon.

Raised in Buena Vista, VA, Betty graduated from Parry McCluer High School and James Madison University.  Betty studied nursing at the Medical College of Virginia before turning to her true passion, teaching English to middle and high school students. 

In 1961 Betty married the love of her life, pilot, and career Air Force Officer Lloyd Franklin Glenn, Jr.  Together they raised four boys while traveling from post to post.  Living in Puerto Rico, Washington State, California, North Carolina and Virginia, Betty was passionate about her boys.  She loved organizing family trips to historical sites, national parks, or just to explore the local countryside.  Always on the move, Betty cherished the time spent with her extended family and friends where she was known for her beautiful smile, terrific sense of humor, and her signature chocolate applesauce cake.  Following the death of her husband in 1992, Betty focused her energies on spoiling her eight grandchildren and volunteering at Ashburn Presbyterian Church where she was a proud member.

Betty is survived by her two sisters Nancy Marrin of Atlanta, GA and Barbara Dixon of Lexington, VA and three sons Lloyd Glenn of Vienna, VA, Lee Glenn of Reston, VA, and Steven Glenn of Raleigh, NC.   She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Lloyd Glenn of Glasgow, VA and her son Robert Glenn of Hickory, NC.

Visitation will be from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Wednesday, May 10th at the Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, in Herndon, VA.  A memorial service is planned for Saturday the third of June in Lexington, VA.  Burial beside her late husband will be at the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery following the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be offered in her name to the Ashburn Presbyterian Church, 20962 Ashburn Road, Ashburn, VA  20147.
