Obituary of Norman Allan Krasnegor

Dr. Norman A. Krasnegor, Ph.D. (Age 77)

On May 11, 2017, in Reston, Virginia.  He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Rebecca; sons and daughters-in-law Daniel and Kristin of Charlottesville and Joshua and Anna of Hermosa Beach, California; granddaughter Simona; and older brother and sister-in-law Harvey and Sally.

Norman was born in Boston and graduated from Boston University (cum laude), Columbia University and the University of Maryland.  He worked for many years as a Research Psychologist and Administrator at the National Institutes of Health, including the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development and the National Institute on Drug Abuse.  In 1979, his organization and editing of the Behavioral Section of the Surgeon General’s Report on Smoking and Health resulted in a Letter of Commendation from the Secretary of HHS.  He was author and editor of numerous scientific books, monographs and journal articles on topics ranging from drug addiction, to parenting, and to fetal and childhood behavioral development.  He held positions as Assistant Professor of Behavioral Biology with the Department of Psychiatry at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and as Clinical Professor of Pediatrics with the Department of Pediatrics at the Georgetown University Medical Center.

Norman lived in Reston for almost fifty years.  In retirement, he became an accomplished water color artist, painting nearly 200 works, culminating in a one-man show in May 2017.  He was curious about the world and the universe and enjoyed reading about history, science and politics.  He was a loving father, grandfather and husband, and was never afraid to express his emotional side.
