Obituary of Maria Giovanna Dickerson

Maria Giovanna Dickerson, age 90, of Reston Virginia, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, May 17th surrounded by family. She was born on February 2, 1927 to Italian parents Alfredo and Virginia Gigli.  She was the widow of Joseph Dickerson of New Cumberland, PA. Maria loved to dance, especially the Polka, and enjoyed traveling with her companion of 17 years, Harry Jones who preceded her in death in 2012. She also enjoyed great meals and spending time with her family. She is survived by her four children, Renato F. Sciumbata (wife Melissa), of Orange Park, FL, Marisa V. Sciumbata of Alexandria, VA, Mirella J. Cook, of Rome, Italy (husband Michael), and Marcella Sciumbata of Sterling, VA. She is also survived by two grandchildren Giulia L. Ingrao of Richmond, VA, and Marc A. Sciumbata of Orange Park, FL.

There will be a private Catholic Mass held at St. Joseph Church in Herndon, VA. She will later be laid to rest beside her beloved parents in her hometown of Orbetello, Italy.
