Obituary of Margaret Elizabeth Gipe

Margaret Elizabeth Gipe died peacefully on June 9, 2017 from complications from Huntington’s Disease. She was born on November 16, 1984 in Dallas, Texas to Barbara Allan Gipe and the late William George Gipe. Just two and a half months later, she moved with her parents to Reston, VA. At age 3, her family settled into the house near South Lakes High School where her mother still lives.

Margaret was a caring and giving friend. She participated in soccer in the Washington Area Girls Soccer League and her high school team. She was a sprinter on her high school track team. Her true passion when she got to college age was art, primarily sculpture but also painting. She continued painting every week until she was no longer able to.

She is survived by her mother Barbara Allan Gipe, her sister Katherine (Katie) Takats (Jeff), and her daughter Virginia Montecalvo, grandparents Hazel and Bill Allan and Nadine Heidbreder Gipe McGee, and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive visitors on Wednesday, June 14, from 6pm to 8pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170.

The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, June 15, at 10:30am at St. Thomas à Becket Catholic Church in Reston, VA. All are invited to a reception following the mass in the church hall.

The burial will follow the reception at 1:30pm at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, 831 Dranesville Rd, Herndon, VA 20170.

If desired, contributions may be made in memory of Margaret Gipe to the Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA) at hdsa.org for the purposes of Huntington's Disease research.
