Obituary of Marvin William Lindsay

Marvin William “Pete” Lindsay

Marvin “Pete” Lindsay, of Herndon, VA, passed away on June 21, 2017 after a lengthy illness.  He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helene Hermann Lindsay, his daughter, Amy Lindsay Litteral, and her husband, Bryan, and two grandchildren, Cadence and Cameron.

Pete was born in Baltimore, Maryland on May 12, 1935, to Thelma May Foster and Charles Edward Lindsay, who preceded him in death, as did his brother, Charles Lindsay.  After graduating Baltimore City College, he served in the Navy for two years.  Pete and Helene were married in 1960, and he was employed by the Federal Government in their Narcotics division.  He then began a career with IBM that would span 30 years, and moved to Arlington, VA.  After three and a half years living overseas in Germany, Pete and his family returned to Arlington in 1980, and then moved to Herndon in 1984.

Always a talented singer and entertainer, Pete has been entertaining audiences for decades, first in his younger years in Maryland, and then joining with The Arlington Players, for which he served as president for two years.  After moving to Herndon, Pete joined the Herndon Town Square Singers and Treble Clefs, with which he performed for the next 30 years.  Many in the community remember him for his renditions of Sinatra and Bing Crosby hits, earning him the title of “crooner” for the two groups.  A supporter of the arts, he served on the Council for the Arts of Herndon, and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Mayor of Herndon for his dedication and service.  When he wasn’t singing, he loved to play golf, and was a most devoted husband, father, son, brother, grandfather, and friend.

The family will receive friends on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 7:00-9:00 PM at Adams Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street in Herndon, VA. Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, 651 Dranesville Road in Herndon, VA. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.  A reception will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church immediately after.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in his name to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org, or the American Heart Association, www.heart.org.
