Ms. Bernice was a lovely lady, full of grace, kindness and intelligence. She and I sang together in the Chorale and we always greeted each other with a smile when we saw each other (outside of the practive). Her smile and amazing enthusiasim will be missed this season but her loving and kind spirit will remain forever in my heart. Heaven is blessed with another angel returning home.

Bernice Reyes-Akinbileje, you will be so missed here in the Library of Congress but more so by me your good friend Ngozi. This sad news was so sudden to me and a shock of lost.
I have known you since 1991 when I came to the Library and we welcomed each other as sisters. You will be wholeheartedly missed as we mourn your departure to The Lord in Heaven where the Angels of The Lord await your arrival.
May God console the Reyes and Akinbileje families, especially Yomi and Kemi (the children) and give you all the fortitude to bear her loss. Bernice was a very lovable spirited child of God.
May Bernice's soul and the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God Rest In Peace Amen.
Ngozi Onye.

We can not thank you enough for your love. You were indeed a loving Aunty, and a Sweet Mother. From the first day we met in 1999, you have always being so loving, so kind, and generous to all of us. You always prayed with us, and prayed for us.
When Tobi was born, we could not think of a better God Mother for him. Thank you for been an Awesome God Mommy to Tobi. You will for ever live in our hearts. We are missing your beautiful and reassuring smile. We are know you are with God.
We are blessed that we were able to show you love while you were here with us. We just wish we had more time to shower you with more love, before the Lord called you home. Thank you for been a Woman of God.
We give all the glory to God for your life. You were Christ like in the way you loved us.
Rest in perfect peace Aunty Bernice. Rest in the Lord our Sweet Angel.

All Glory to God, which was the life style of my dear friend Bernice. She prayed for me and my wife and asked me to pray for her and Steve. That was months ago, in early 2017. But she had met Ana my wife at Heritage years ago and they greatly enjoyed speaking in Spanish. Over the last year or so, Bernice was asking me, how was Ana – who as an ordained Hispanic minister was, and is, always very busy with her business for money and her church business which always takes first priority. Ana prayed every day for Bernice since she learned of the disease in her body.
Led to heritage in fall winter 2010, in 2011 I was introduced Heritage evangelism by Eric Kelly, another dear friend of Bernice. Then I began praying with the Intercessory prayer team at the old Temporary Temple. This is how I met Bernice. I met Steve because he liked how I sang in the choir, and I liked him very much, how he sometimes dressed in African like robes to church. Steve took a photo of me in my choir robe and framed it and gave it to me. I still have it in my study and often view it fondly.
In the Heritage bible study Sunday class, Bernice was mentoring me with ideas to improve my Spanish. She was also expecting me to mentor others and gave me little hints a few times a month. This work bore fruit at Hour of Power when I sang the song below as my testimony two months ago. Then on June 24 when I ministered at St Stevens, I organized a bilingual preach with a bilingual pastor who just “happened to be” at our prayer table, at the right time for me to invite him to preach that day.
On June 25 at bible study, we were told about Bernice’s hospice; and very sad I went to her home with Eric Kelly and his daughter. When I saw how weak Bernice was, I became surprised by the strength of her handshake, and told her so. Then I calmly explained that we’d had our first ever bilingual preach for Heritage, and she raised her right arm in a kind of victory celebration. She realized that her work in me was paying off, and this infused me with a desire to find powerful Hispanic healers who would heal her.
As you know, this was not God’s plan. She is home with Him, relaxed and healed in His presence; I can feel it now, even if it brings tears to my eyes right now as well.
We pray to God, “Break my heart the way we break yours …when we sin.” We have to be careful what we pray for because if we need it He gives it to us.
So Ana and I will cry in our private place and “won’t let the sun catch us crying…” So I have lost a dear friend, for a short while. You have lost a beloved family member. But we will all see her again. It just hurts us right now and God will fill us and bring us closer to Him. He is so wise, He loves us so much. He is so faithful. So please see the Hispanic worship song below, where we tell God how faithful he is and that there is no one like him. He is incomparable in His wisdom. Yes, I hurts, but it is with a real heart that I never had before I knew Him. So, like Bernice, I give Him all the Glory and Honor till eternity. God bless you all.
With my tears falling, please see below the lyrics of TU FIDELIDAD, sung by Marcus Witt on YouTube: “Your faithfulness” TU FIDELIDAD:
TU FIDELIDAD ES GRANDE
TU FIDELIDAD INCOMPARABLE ES
NADIE COMO TU BENDITO DIOS
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
TU FIDELIDAD ES GRANDE
TU FIDELIDAD INCOMPARABLE ES
NADIE COMO TU BENDITO DIOS
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
TU FIDELIDAD ES GRANDE
TU FIDELIDAD INCOMPARABLE ES
NADIE COMO TU BENDITO DIOS
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
TU FIDELIDAD ES GRANDE
TU FIDELIDAD INCOMPARABLE ES
NADIE COMO TU BENDITO DIOS
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
TU FIDELIDAD ES GRANDE
TU FIDELIDAD INCOMPARABLE ES
NADIE COMO TU BENDITO DIOS
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD
GRANDE ES TU FIDELIDAD

Aunt Bernice,
Thinking about you and at peace knowing you are in a better place. Words alone cannot express the adoration I felt towards you so in remembrance this song exemplifies my feelings about you.
“You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
For your selflessness, my admiration
And for everything you've done
You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it
You've been so kind and generous
I don't know how you keep on giving
For your kindness I'm in debt to you
And I never could have come this far without you
So for everything you've done
You know I'm bound...
I'm bound to thank you for it
I want to thank you
For so many gifts
You gave with love and tenderness
I want to thank you
I want to thank you
For your generosity
The love and the honesty
That you gave me
I want to thank you
Show my gratitude
My love and my respect for you
I want to thank you
I want to...
Thank you
Thank you
Thank you”

My sadness over the loss of my dear friend, prayer partner and constant intercessor is only relieved by my knowledge that she is in Heaven now. I chose the Bible because Bernice always had her Bible handy to read a scripture, share a scripture and she gave me a lovely Bible as a gift that I will always treasure. The Bible was her playbook. She knew chapter and verse, and always had one on the ready for any situation that arose. And she was selfless, always praying for others even when she was gravely ill. She would not put that burden on anyone, even though we wish we had known that our time with her was waning. May you rest in Eternal Peace, Bernice. We love you and your memory will bring a smile to many a face, echoing the beautiful smile that was always on yours.

May our heavenly Father comfort you in the days ahead in the physical absence of your dear loved one, Sister Bernice. I am so thankful that our paths crossed in this life and that she was an awesome prayer warrior (I am a recipient of them)! She was not ashamed of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and would take your hands in the corridors of this Library of Congress, and pray a powerful and anointed prayer over you.
I too will miss her and the encouraging words she imparted in me as she was going through her own struggles in this life; however, glory be to God, blessed is the dead that die in the Lord for she fought a good fight and kept the faith! No more sickness nor disease, nothing but joy and peace in the presence of the Lord!!!!!

To the family and friends of Bernice,
Bernice is and was a woman with a heart for God. She founded the Sisters of Light/Ladies of Light prayer group and we met every Thursday at 12 noon for many, many years. She was our leader. She guided our group. She was so warm, welcoming and always prepared. The light shone through her and she radiated the joy that comes from knowing and serving God. She loved her family and prayed for them unceasingly. She was a true intercessor that was on her knees asking God to bless others before herself. My heart is broken. I loved this woman. May her soul find rest. To say she lived a life well-served would not do her the justice that she richly deserved.
