Mr. Detwiler, Dan and Ben - I was saddened today when I heard of John's passing. Thinking about him brings back fond childhood memories of all the reptile shows that we did and of the weekend camping trips out at the Shenandoah River when we were in high school. Though we had lost touch, I have thought of him from time to time over the years. My heartfelt condolences go out to you for the loss of your son and brother.

I am so sorry for your loss. John was a sincere, kind, and humble gentleman, and my husband and I will miss him dearly. He was our neighbor, and was the most helpful, sweetest, and honorable friend we could ever imagine. He was also the most selfless individual I have ever met. When my husband broke his collar bone and I had to shovel the numerous snowstorms during the winter of 2009-2010, John was out there helping me shovel our driveway and I never even asked for assistance. He would lend us his tools for gardening, and he would help us out with his truck on multiple occasions. With every deed I have listed here, he has done dozens more. I cannot muster up how terribly much we will miss John. He was a dear friend and he will remain in our hearts and memories for the rest of our lives. John we love and miss you, always! Our deepest condolences, Lauren and Joseph McKoy

John was one of the kindest, most humble, caring men I have ever known. He was a direct reflection of his family. I am very shocked and deeply saddened that the world lost him way too soon. To the Detwiler Family, please know my heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you during this most difficult time. John made a lasting and wonderful impact on so many lives.
