Obituary of Nancy Smith Stewart

Nancy Smith Stewart, age 73, of Harrisburg, PA, passed away on Monday, July 17, 2017, from injuries sustained in sudden tragic in-home accident. She was strong in her faith and is with the Lord now.

Nancy was an angel to all of us to here on earth - very loving, caring and would always go out of her way to serve others.  She always had a certain spunk in her step, and her smile was contagious to all who met her!  She was second “Mom” to many, an adopted grandmother to others and welcomed people into her home for extended periods.    When you saw her, you would not go hungry … not go thirsty, and even if you weren’t hungry – you’d would find a way to eat, as she was very persistent and a great cook!

She has been the glue to the family, and continuously brought the family together for gatherings and reunions. Her legacy will forever live on as one of selfless character, a caring and gentle soul, fun-loving, full of laughter, and always welcoming and catering to many peoples’ needs.

We will greatly miss her and love her dearly.   She lives on through our memories, and surely will be an “early entrant” to get her wings above!

Nancy was born July 1, 1944, in Erie, PA. She lived in Camp Hill, PA; Keene, NH; Indiana, PA; and most recently in Harrisburg, PA.  She retired from Pennsylvania Dept. of Transportation as an Executive Secretary in 2007.  She worked at Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency as a Management Technician for emergency preparedness.  Nancy was a loving parent, grandparent, sister, cousin and friend.

She is survived by her son David and his wife Maria and grandchildren, Cameron, Ian and Lauren and grand-dog, Rooney of Centerville, VA and her son Todd and his wife Alma and grandsons, Tanner and Grant and grand-dogs, Roxy and Ruby of Leesburg, VA.  She also leaves her brother David Smith and his wife Marca Ann of Dawsonville, GA and her brother Conrad Cowan and his wife Beth of Exton, PA.  She also leaves a large extended circle of family and friends.

She is preceded in death by parents, David and Elsie and her brother Gordon.

Nancy’s final act here on Earth was to give the ultimate gift – that of donation.  As a tissue donor, Nancy left behind a legacy of giving, and putting others first.  By being a tissue donor,  Nancy will continue her generosity by helping to enhance the lives of more than 50 individuals.  Her family is asking those she left behind to also consider this ultimate act of giving in one of two ways:

Donations in her name to the Make A Wish Foundation: http://site.wish.org/goto/nancyswish
Donations in her name to Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC).  Checks can be sent to WRTC, 3190 Fairview Park Drive, Suite 700, Falls Church VA 22042.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July. 29, at Cornerstone Chapel, 650 Battlefield Parkway, Leesburg, VA 20175.  Pastor Andy Wagner will officiate.
