Obituary of Georgios Demetrios Giannakopoulos

Georgios (George) Demetrios Giannakopoulos, 36, passed away unexpectedly on July 11, 2017. Georgios was born June 4, 1981 in Washington D.C.

Georgios is survived by his wife Kaitlin, their loving dog Meeko, brother Steven, and parents Fredericka and Demetri.

George was a brother to most and a friend to all. His quiet strength and tenacity towards life was contagious, and he made those around him stronger and a better person. Even at the age of 30, George went into the military where he physically and mentally outshone young recruits, finishing top of his class in Ranger and Special Forces schools.

He was everyone’s rock and carried the weight of a million worlds, everyday sacrificing himself to take care of those he cared about. Yet, George lived life on his own terms. His absence will leave a hole in our lives and hearts that will never be filled. 

"Some people hear their own inner voices with great clearness and they live by what they hear. Such people become crazy, or they become legends."

George will be laid to rest at Arlington Cemetery. More information about his upcoming service will be updated when available.
