Obituary of Trula Mae Croson

Trula Mae Croson, age 88, died on Sunday, September 10, 2017, in the Foxtrail Assisted Living, a caring and loving community in Manassas. From her birth on June 28, 1929 to her death on Sunday she loved everyone and everyone loved Trula Mae.

Trula was born in the mountains of North Carolina the oldest of five girls.  She attended the DAR boarding school in SC, then moving with family to Herndon, Virginia attended and graduated from Herndon High School where she met her future sister in law and best girlfriend Eleanor (Croson) Thompson who later introduced her to her big brother Billy, whom Trula later married.

Trula and Billy made their life with the rest of the Croson Clan on Thompson Road, in the Croson Subdivision, later to be lovingly referred to as Croson Hill or just the Hill.  They built their own houses with all the family pitching in, raising their families side by side, cousins running from one house to the next or across the “field” to the grandparents.  Trula's home became the hub, always bustling with family and friends.

Trula worked many years for the Virginia Highway Department, in later years she became the cafeteria lady at Navy Elementary School, just down the road from the family home.  She loved those children as her own and remained friends with many teachers and children as they grew up through the years until her death.

Trula married William (Billy) Croson on July 7, 1949.  Left to honor Trula Mae are her two sons, Frank (Leslie) and Dale (Carolyn); six grandchildren; Matthew (Kathryn) Croson, Michael (Elizabeth) Croson, Will Croson, Casey (Devin) Ridenour, Thomas Keeney and Jessica (Matthew) Wyne; six great-grandchildren: Addison Croson, Coraline Croson, Molly Croson, Annabel Croson, Kaylee Mae Ridenour and Mason Wyne; three sisters, Betty (Steve) Dolfi; Velma (George) Belk and June (Tom) Park; as well as her sister in law Eleanor Thompson; brother in law Walter (Gladys) Croson and a treasured wealth of nieces and nephews.   Trula was preceded in death by her husband Billy, her parents and her sister Mary.

Trula Mae will be remembered as a bright and shinning light to all who ever knew her love and kindness.  Her door was always open and she had a kind word for everyone.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 14, at Adams Green Funeral Home from 6:00PM until 8:00PM.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 15, at 11:30 am at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Peachtree Street, Herndon. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon.

The family would like to extend our gratitude to all the staff at the Foxtrail Assisted Living in Manassas, for their attentiveness and loving care and to Vitas Hospice Care for their kindness and care of our mother and to the family.
