Marilyn Elizabeth Allewelt, age 82, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2017, at The Village at Rockville where she had been residing for the past few years. She was born on December 22,1934 in Wichita Falls, TX to the late Charles Arthur Dotson and Mary Ruth Linville Dotson. Marilyn had one sibling, Charlotte Dotson Frazier, who passed from Polio in 1952. Upon graduation from Wichita Falls High School in 1953, Marilyn moved with her parents to Hanover, PA. She attended Lycoming College in Williamsport, PA for two years, then York Business School, prior to meeting and marrying her husband Robert William Allewelt on April 8, 1956 in Hanover, PA. She moved with her husband “Bob” to Northern VA where he had recently started working at The Department of Agriculture. Marilyn also worked briefly at The Department of Agriculture before resigning to become a full-time mother and homemaker.

Marilyn raised her three children with her husband in Northern VA where she was active in her Methodist faith and singing in the church choir. She was also a Cub Scouts Den Mother, Junior Garden Club Leader, and VP of the Fairfax Ferns Garden Club and the Fairfax Ferns Bowling League, as well as Corresponding Secretary and VP of the Fairfax Women’s Aglow. In addition to gardening, floral arranging, and home decorating, Marilyn enjoyed camping at the beach in the summer with her husband and children, and creating memorable holiday gatherings. Marilyn nursed her husband through a protracted illness with cancer before he passed away at home on May 9, 1975.

Marilyn worked in clerical and retail positions both in Northern VA, and in the Tidewater, VA area where she resided from 1981 to 2008, when she moved to Rockville, MD to be near her daughter. In later years, Marilyn enjoyed attending bible study groups, as well as playing bingo and cards in the senior communities where she resided. She also became an avid follower of sports and other TV programs.

Marilyn is survived by: son James Allewelt of Fredericksburg, VA, daughter Susan Allewelt of Gaithersburg, MD, son Charles Allewelt of Norfolk, VA, niece Barbara Stokes of San Antonio, TX, and cousins Mary Ann Nash, Bill Nash, and Brenda Nash of Richmond, VA.
