Obituary of Hugh Andes Hollar

Hugh A. Hollar who was born on June 1, 1930 in Singers Glenn, Virginia, died peacefully on September 27th, 2017 at the age of 87.

Hugh is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years Ann Warren Hollar, and his children, Hugh A. Hollar, Jr. and Barbara Hollar Madgwick. He has 2 sisters – Joy Costello and Patti Roberts.  He is also survived by 5 grandchildren – Noah Hollar Madgwick, Rebecca Anna Madgwick, Chloe Noel Madgwick, Tessa Elizabeth Ann Madgwick and Emily Marie Voelz. He is preceded in death by his parents and 5 of his siblings (2 brothers and 3 sisters).

Hugh served as an officer in the Army during the Korean Conflict. He spent 35 years teaching industrial arts for Alexandria City Public Schools where he was part of the original staff at T.C.Williams High School.

Hugh’s priority was always helping others and putting family first. To all who knew him his favorite job was being “PopPop” to his grandchildren and many great nephews and nieces. He lived with his daughter’s family (which included 4 of his grandchildren) for the last 9 years where he and Ann enjoyed being a very active part of his grandchildren’s lives.

A funeral is scheduled for Saturday, September 30th, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Herndon United Methodist Church (701 Bennett Street Herndon, VA 20170). Graveside service follows immediately after at Chestnut Grove Cemetery.
