Elizabeth Nicolas

Obituary of Elizabeth Hope Nicolas

Elizabeth (Buffy) Nicolas died (6 October, 2017) at the age of 69 after a two year battle with breast cancer. Buffy was a beloved and respected elementary teacher in Fairfax County Public Schools for 33 years. In addition, she ran a theater program called Children's Performing Arts Theater as well as IT, an Improvisational Troupe for teenagers in the summer. She was an accomplished singer in her own right.

Beyond her work and many many friends, Buffy was passionate about dogs, notably Portuguese Water Dogs.  She proudly founded Porties for Obama well before the then newly elected President wisely chose that breed as the family pet. She co-authored a book, Capital Porties, on Portuguese Water Dogs in the Washington area.  The Humane Society honored her for work toward animal awareness with her students.

Buffy is survived by her loving husband Ken Nicolas, her dear dog Hal, her step children, Tasha and Wes and their spouses and children, and by two beloved sisters, Amy Rhodes of New York City and Kate Rhodes who resides in Melbourne, Australia.
