Obituary of Svitlana Trunova

Daughter Victoria Gabrielyan, son-in-law Jeff Hoverson, granddaughter Eva Li, her husband Oleg Li and great-grandchildren Nikita and Alexander sadly announce that on October 19, 2017 at 19:50, Svitlana Trunova passed away peacefully, at home in a dream.

Svitlana Trunova, née Grigorash, was born on November 14, 1938 in Yalta, Donetsk Region, in Ukraine – a part of the Soviet Union at that time. She was born into the family of an automobile mechanic and an elementary school teacher. She survived World War II during her early childhood. And in 1945, Svitlana entered the first class of Yalta secondary school, which she graduated from in 1955. Then there was medical school and the Donetsk Medical Institute, specializing in medicine. She graduated with her Doctorate of Medicine in 1965.

In 1961, Svitlana married her college-mate Alexander Trunov, and in 1964, her only daughter, Victoria, was born. In 1965, Svitlana followed her husband to his first military station as a physician in the Soviet Army, in the Republic of Georgia. Her marriage with Alexander lasted 45 years, when he passed away in 2006.

Then in Svitlana’s Work Book, there appeared only three entries:

Doctor-Therapist in the Tetri Tskaro region, Republic of Georgia
Doctor-Therapist in Clinic #6 of Yerevan, Republic of Armenia
Doctor-Therapist at Yalta’s Hospital, Donetsk Region, Ukraine

Since 2009, Svitlana lived in the U.S. with her daughter and son-in-law. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.

The family will receive friends Thursday, October 26, from 4:00-7:00 pm at Adams-Green Funeral home, located at 721 Elden St., Herndon, VA, 20170.

Following the service, Svitlana's family invites you to remember her in the house where she lived in recent years: 701 Gentle Breeze Ct., Herndon, VA, 20170.

Svitlana Trunova will ultimately be buried at the Yalta cemetery in Ukraine, next to her husband, parents and grandparents.

Any donations will go towards Svitlana's last trip (for her burial in Ukraine), as well as to the needs of the Yalta Greek-Orthodox Church.

We express our deepest gratitude to all those who assisted her towards the end: the excellent doctors and outstanding nurses at the Loudoun Inova hospital; the workers at the Davita Clinic in Sterling, who attended to her dialysis needs over the past 8 years; and her friends and family. You will always be in our thoughts and prayers.
