Obituary of James Dennis Molloy

JAMES DENNIS MOLLOY, 74, died from this life on October 21, 2017, in Arlington, Virginia. Dennis passed away peacefully surrounded by his beloved family. Born in Brooklyn, New York, on July 16, 1943, Dennis was the third of nine children born to John L. and Viola H. Molloy. He was raised in Westbury, New York, and graduated from Chaminade H.S. (’61) in Mineola, New York, and Mount St. Mary’s University (’65) in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He served in the U.S. Army from 1968-1973, was Honorably Discharged, and was thereafter a committed VFW member. Dennis earned his J.D. from The Antioch School of Law (’83) and was an active member of both the Virginia Bar Association and the District of Columbia Bar, and of The Barristers, in Washington, DC. He was an active Mount St. Mary’s alumnus, serving on its President’s Council from 1996, and on its Pre-Law Advisory Board from 2010, until his death. His law practice, Hanson & Molloy in Washington, DC, concentrated in the areas of labor & employment, off-shore and captive insurance and re-insurance, and non-profit law. Dennis’ work brought him frequently to Bermuda, where colleagues and clients became lifelong friends, and he developed a deep appreciation for sailing, ultimately participating in the 2000 and 2002 Newport Bermuda Race. Dennis’ pride in his Irish roots fostered an interest in and support of the Washington Ireland Program, Beltway Boxing Project and Ireland Funds of America. Dennis is survived by his wife of 43 years, Donna Feustel Molloy of Oak Hill, Virginia, daughters Maura Molloy Grant (Christopher) of Silver Spring, Maryland, and Megan E. Molloy of Arlington, Virginia, and sons James Dennis Molloy (Michelle Coates) of Arlington, Virginia, and Patrick H. Molloy, U.S.N. Rota, Spain; grandchildren, Liam, Maeve and Conor Grant; brothers John (Agnes), Michael (Patricia), and Peter; sisters Mary Ann Gannon (Michael), Maureen Carmichael (Terence) and Kerry Donohue (Thomas); 23 nieces and nephews and 41 grand-nieces and grand-nephews. Visitation will be held October 27, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon, Virginia, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial on October 28, 2017, 11:00 a.m., at St. Veronica Catholic Church, Chantilly, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, the Molloys ask that a donation be made to the EOD Warrior Foundation in Dennis’ name. Slainté.
