Obituary for Carrie Ann Piampiano

On Saturday, November 11, 2017, our beloved Carrie Ann Piampiano, passed away at Sunrise Reston Assisted Living, Reston, Virginia. 

Carrie (known to some as “Annie”), was born in Brooklyn, New York on August 26, 1922 to Michael and Maria Amalfitano Lopes (morphed into “Lopez”), who had immigrated to the United States from Italy.  She was one of 7 children, sisters Frances, Esther, Joan, Marie, Ginger and brother Michael.  Her mom passed away in 1948, and her father in 1952. 

On April 1, 1945, Carrie married her childhood sweetheart, Arthur Piampiano (while he was home from U.S. Army leave) and in 1953, they moved to East Northport, Long Island, New York.  They raised their children, Robert and Ramona in this home, and Carrie remained there until May, 2017. 

Carrie loved to interact with people, had a wicked sense of humor and great wit that all who knew her enjoyed right up until her last days on earth.  She was a member of her high school honor society and great at math, having worked as a bank teller before starting a family.  She was an avid walker and loved to read. For many years she enjoyed activities with other seniors at the Salvation Army in East Northport, a seniors group in Huntington, New York, and a private rosary group.  Her favorite sound was the sound of children laughing.

Carrie is survived by her brother and sister-in law, Michael and Rae Lopez, daughter Ramona Lee Badawy-Henke, and son-in-law, Bernard Henke, daughter-in law Marjorie Piampiano, and grandchildren Peter Badawy, Kristen Badawy, Hannah Badawy, Nicole Henke, Zachary Henke, Kaitlin Piampiano and Shannon Piampiano, as well as many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors.

A memorial service will be held at Brueggemann Funeral Home of East Northport, 552 Larkfield Road, East Northport, New York, 11731 in the spring of 2018.  A date will be posted on this site when memorial service arrangements are finalized.  Carrie will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, New York, immediately after the memorial service.
