Obituary of Rosaline Salimatu Kargbo

Our dear Rosaline Salimatu Kargbo was born as Salimatu Kamara in old Port Loko, Sierra
Leone on February 24, 1949 to the late Pa Alimamy Kamara and Mrs. Mariama Bomwara
Modu Kamara. Rosaline was affectionately known as “O’Rose”, “Rose”, and “Rosie Rosie”.
As a young scholar, Rose attended DC Council School, and then went on to Annie Walsh
Memorial School for girls in Freetown, Sierra Leone. As a young adult, Rose embarked on
a journey to the United States in 1972 in which she first settled in New York. While residing
in New York, she furthered her educational aspirations by enrolling at City College of New
York. Whiles in school, Rose grew a passion for writing and reciting famous Shakespearean
plays from memory. She would oftentimes write her own scripts and participate in plays at
the school. Throughout Rose’ professional career, she had a great passion for the
healthcare industry where she spent over 30 years before retiring in 2015.

Rose was a devoted mother, grand-mother, sister, aunt, friend, and so much more. Her
affectionate smile was contagious and would capture anyone’s attention. She always gave
graciously and had a voice that would calm your spirit if you were bothered. Rosaline was a
great cook, specializing in her native West African cuisines and many other cuisines from
around the world. She was so compassionate, loving, and always gave a helping hand
when needed. Everyone who knew Rose knew how she felt about family. Family was the
most important thing to her, and she wanted to make sure that her family never lost sight of
each other. She stressed in her last few months of life that she wanted to make sure her
entire family stayed together, and most importantly be there for one another no matter what. Rose always made sure the people in her life knew how much she loved them, not only by
her actions, but through her words. Through her words, she made sure to end a sentence
with “I love you” or “Take care” or some other pleasantries to let you know that she wished
you well.

Rosaline transitioned to Heaven on December 3, 2017, and is survived by her loving
brother Sheka Kamara (Ellen Kamara); children: Alimamy Duramodu Amara Kargbo Jr.,
Yusuf Sheriff Kargbo (Phoebe Brathwaite), Sheik Osman Kargbo, Fathu Ribia Kargbo;
grandchildren: Marco Alim Kargbo-Mendez, Salima Leila Kargbo, Dillion Elijah Williams;
nephews/niece: Sheka Kamara, Alfred Kamara, Festus Kamara, & Mariyama Kamara.
