Obituary of Frances Anthony Green

Frances Anthony (Toni) Green passed away December 17, 2017.  She was born March 19, 1917 in San Diego, CA.  She graduated from UC Berkeley in 1938.  In June 1941 she married Robert R. Green (Capt., USN Retired) and became the quintessential Navy wife supporting her husband’s career and raising a family.  She faced every new assignment with a sense of adventure and instilled in her two children her love for travel.  When her husband was deployed to the Mediterranean in post-war 1950, she took her then 6-year-old son to follow his ship around Europe and repeated the exercise several more times over the years.   She and her husband loved cruising and entertaining their USNA ’39 classmates at their timeshares in Cancun.  She celebrated her 99th birthday in Cancun surrounded by 20 of her family members!  Besides her love for travel, she loved cooking, needlepoint, and reading.  She attributed her long life to always having something to look forward to and a big glass of red wine daily.  Her husband of 61 years died in 2003.  Her beloved cat, Stanley, died in 2017.  She is survived by her son Robert (Lee) and daughter Mary (Richard), four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.  The family is eternally grateful to her wonderful team of caretakers both at Capital Caring, West Falls, and LifeMatters  especially, Ellen, Connie, Agnes, Justifa, Vivian, and Marie.   A memorial service will be held at Falcons Landing on January 5 at 2:00 p.m.   In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the USNA Alumni Association, Capital Caring of Loudoun, or Critter Adoption & Rescue Effort, Inc. (careshelter.org), Ruskin, FL.
