John was a familiar figure in the Reflection Woods neighborhood as he walked (always in a strong manner getting his daily exercise) and cared for the many beautiful cats who came to his front steps and yard and took occasional trips in his car.
John was very proud of his service in the U.S. Military and shared stories of his service with Rex -- they entertained each other with tales of past glories.
We'll miss his presence in the neighborhood.

My name is Kennard Chong.
I’d like to kindly introduce my family to Barbara and her family and friends with a few photos of us, since they haven’t met before.
Sharynne Chong Shepard was my oldest sister of two (Karynne Chong Morgan). I am the youngest of three siblings. My parents were Sam and Bertha. John became my brother in-law. He filled the role of a big brother which I never had. He was full of kindness, always respectful, and caring. I remember him havjng many fine qualities and well liked by many. Such a wonderful officer and a gentleman he was. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, discovering various words in a dictionary (my favorite word he taught me - Bevy) and writing letters to many and of different subjects to get his views across, making his point and case. Always positive to make a difference in the community and world around him.
Time is ever flowing. To hold on we must capture these moments, in a photo, a song perhaps. Those memories we gather are kept in in our hearts so the ones we love dearly live on forever and always. We celebrate their life.
Our deepest condolences to Barbara and her family. A fond farewell to John. He will be missed and we will miss his spirit always.
Warmest Aloha from all of us.
A few songs for John:
Rainbow Connection - Kermit the Frog
Somewhere Over the Rainbow- IZ
I’ll Remember You - Don Ho
Harbor Lights “Flying” - Peter Moon Band
Flying with Angels - Na Leo

John was proud of his country and served it with honor. I never heard him speak ill of anyone but was pretty vocal about actions of politicians. He loved family and cared for any critter that wondered into his life. He was one of the good guys and will be missed by all.

This candle is lit for "Uncle John" who would annually grace "Aunty Sharynne's" grave with flowers--a most kind gesture that our families in Hawai'i appreciated deeply. He was a bright, spirited, and kind gentleman, and we will always cherish the visits with him and Barbara over the years. Our aloha to him and warm condolences to Barbara...Charles, Karynne (Lei), Olan & Scott, Loea and Momi Morgan
