Obituary of Florence Catherine Prestera

Florence C. Prestera, 83, passed away peacefully on January 18, 2018 in Loudoun County, Va. She went to be with the Lord and her loved ones, who she missed dearly. She fought a hard battle, staying strong and never giving up. She set a great example on how to be courageous during tough times and always showed love and kindness to others.
Florence was born on January 3, 1935, in Washington, D.C. She had a large family that consisted of ten children. She was the second oldest and often was a motherly figure to the others. She spoke of her childhood and the closeness she had with her siblings. Although they didn’t have much, they had the love and support of each other. She would often share her memories of always feeling loved and protected by her brothers and sisters.
She married her soulmate, Edward Prestera, in 1961. They shared over thirty years of love together and had two children, Sharon and Cathy. They owned and operated restaurants over the years, the last one being in Leesburg, Va. Their home was a place of comfort and joy. Family frequently gathered to celebrate good times and create lasting memories. Florence was an excellent cook and hostess, often preparing Italian dishes for her family and friends.
Her greatest joy in life was her family. She loved each and every one of them and made them her priority. She had a huge, nurturing heart and an enormous amount of love, which was obvious to anyone that had the pleasure of meeting her. Her interests and passions included cooking, gardening, music, reading, beach trips, and spending time with her family. She was a Methodist and a strong believer in the Lord.
She is survived by her daughter Cathy; sisters Elaine, Ruth, and Doris; brother Arthur; grandchildren Ricky and Rachael; great-grandchildren Bradley, Brianna, Aric, and Kayli; in addition to many nieces, nephews, family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all, forever treasured in our hearts and memories. Our only peace at this difficult time is that she is no longer suffering and is in Heaven with the Lord and her loved ones. We know that this is not goodbye – we will see her again one day.
A viewing will be held at Adam-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Va. on Tuesday January 23, 2018 from 5-8 PM. Church services will be at 11 am on Wednesday January 24 at Pender Methodist Church followed by interment at National Memorial Cemetery at 1 pm.
